“Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.”
Winston Churchill

They say that enthusiasm is contagious and I’m sure you’d agree that this is true.

The amount of enthusiasm you bring to any and everything you do will ultimately determine the quality of your day-to-day experience.

The challenge is maintaining your enthusiasm when things don’t go as planned. And if you are anything like me, you try a lot of ideas out and many of them don’t go as you envisioned! šŸ™‚

When this happens, how do you stay motivated and enthused?

Practice the following 2 steps as a way to keep your enthusiasm and energy levels high…even when things don’t go according to plan:

1. Stop taking life so seriously
Remember to have fun. No-one is perfect, this includes you and remember that enjoying yourself is priority #1.

2. Think about all of the good things in your life
Even though things may be going wrong, or you have what appears to be a “failure” on your hands, you still have plenty of wins in your lifetime. Focus on these and get excited that you have had so many successes!

Plenty of theĀ f-word
I like Andy Cope and Gavin Oattes’ take on failure in their book Shine (Capstone: 2018). It’s the f-word. Dirty, rotten, foul-mouthed, despicable failure.

But we do need failure. Not failure the result i.e. losing the business, losing the relationship, failing the interview.

But failure the process: learning, improving, iterating, removing slack, becoming lean, becoming fighting-fit, effective, getting really good, gaining wisdom, picking yourself up and giving it another go.

Yeah, that.

This requires lots of the f-word. But, as humans, we don’t like it. We want approval, affirmation, and love.

But hang on a minute; no, you don’t. What you need is to grow, to discover who you are and the outer edge of your limits. You want to start creating the most brilliant version of yourself and shine.

If you want to shine, you have toĀ accept abject failure as part of the process. Repeatedly. With tears at times. With jeers at others.

Failure, yes. But stay in the game.

The truth is simple: if you’re unwilling to fail then you’re unwilling to succeed.

To your success…fail to succeed with enthusiasm
